Wanted: Blue Lobsters!
Hello all,
I just wanted to take a few minutes and talk about the fun choral group we have going here at the St. Lawrence. We meet twice a week, and for a non-auditioned group we have some serious game. Our last performance was the 19th at Munjfest, and we are re-grouping and getting ready to start learning new material for our concert in December. This is the perfect time for new members to get into the action and we are ready to expand. Songs that we already have in our pocket are:
The Lobster Quadrille, by Lewis Carroll, from Alice In Wonderland- a quirky, fun arrangement that includes some light choreography..
Elijah Rock, a traditional spiritual, with a driving bass line and goosebumps all round.
A Capital Ship, by Charles Edward Carryl. A ridiculous, hilarious marathon of a sea chantey with original vocabulary and much mention of menu.
Sweet Suffolk Owl, by Thomas Vautor. This is so far our most impressive piece, a poem with beautiful four-part chords and flowing melody and dynamics.
The Yellow Submarine, by the Beatles. It’s fun, happy, a singalong song, and a bit goofy in the 3rd verse.
We are just now starting to learn Angel by Sarah McLaughlan, which is simply gorgeous.. and are looking at some new material like Blackbird- another Beatles song, I’ll Fly Away (from O Brother) some Beach Boys, a couple classical pieces, and maybe some arrangements from Phantom of the Opera and Rent.
Our concert is scheduled tentatively for December 7th- Come and see us! and if you love to sing, shoot us an email and get all the details about when to show up.
Thanks guys!
