The St. Lawrence Arts Center Goes Green and Efficient

by Deirdre on January 27th, 2010

The St. Lawrence Arts Center makes it’s first steps in reducing its carbon footprint and going green by replacing a tired out, oversized Burnham natural gas, atmospheric boiler to the ultra modern HT (high tech) 1.65 by Baxi.

Commisioned this week, this fully condensing and modulating boiler was installed by Nice Fuel of Portland. It came on line at 98.1% combustion efficient and supplies heat and hot water to the historic facility located on Munjoy Hill in Portland.

The multi-temp system includes high temperature baseboard, slab radiant, and remote unit heaters. The system is managed by the Honeywell AQ2000 Series control which mixes the radiant on a secondary curve to the baseboard which is reset by the inboard software provided by Baxi. A Grundfos Alpha moves the water through the slab consuming as little as 6 watts of electricity.

Based on annual consumption savings, the non-profit organization expects the system to pay for itself in approximately 5 years while reducing it’s emmisions and their carbon footprint.

Special thanks to Tom Lavin, who is the Baci Representative for Marathon International and to Darren Webber of Edos representing Honeywell. Darren was on the job as needed to answer questions and assist with commissioning.

The St. Lawrence Arts Center would also like to thank Adam, Paul, Ed and the entire team at Nice Fuel Co. (761-3835) on another professionally superior system installation!
