End of Winter Tour-Tiger Saw, Guy Capecelatro III and Mica Jones

03/13/12 – Don't miss this special evening as the Portsmouth famed Tiger Saw and good friend Guy Capecelatro III finish off their End of Winter tour here in Portland ME. The local up-and-coming musical talent of Mica Jones will open the evening. Tickets are now on-sale through Brown Paper Tickets and at any Bull Moose Music location! Guy Capecelatro III picked up the guitar when he was 10 years old, allegedly "never getting any better at it" after 20-something years of playing. Growing up in Mamaroneck, New York, high school memories are "driving to the Bronx at lunch time for bags of crappy pot sprayed with hairspray to make it seem more bud-like." He left that all behind in order to study philosophy at Plymouth State College. Quitting after two years, he traveled around the U.S., hitting 42 of the 50 states. He moved into Portsmouth in 1987, resuming his studies at UNH while enjoying public transportation (though he had a car) as it "provided a lot of fodder for stories because freaky people take the bus," and graduated with his philosophy degree in 1989. Between 1988 and the birth of his record label Two Ton Santa, Guy was in the bands Fancy Pants, Toast, Size of Guam, The Driveways, Up-a-Tree, Beekeeper, The Pants, Bob & Guy, and The Crotch Wax Menace, "and probably some others I'm forgetting as well," he guesses. Mica Jones has just released his newest album entitled 'Gualamata' and we are very lucky to have him grace the stage as our opening act. Alongside him will be his gracious band comprised of kind and familiar faces. Please visit the link to his bandcamp site below to hear samples. Cheers!

Ted Sink CD Release

03/25/12 – Ted Sink is a songwriter by disposition and an ad-copyrwriter by trade, living in Portsmouth, NH. The father of 4 daughters, he writes songs of love, loss and desire, many in story form. Since 2002, he has published three albums or originals with his producer Andy Happel, in styles ranging from country to classic pop to latin jazz and reggae. Sink will perform here at St. Lawrence Arts Tuesday March 25th at 7PM. Join us as we celebrate the release of his most current album Nothing Changes; Sink’s third and most recent release, is a departure from his earlier work in that two of the cuts are covers (Come Rain or Come Shine by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen, and Do Nothin’ ‘Til You Hear From Me by Duke Ellington and Bob Russell), and nine are originals. It also differs by venturing into previously untried territory with the semi-hip hop title tune, the almost-reggae Upstairs Room and the pseudo Beach Boys-ish Take Me Away. Like Ted’s earlier work, Nothing Changes was recorded, mixed and mastered by Andy Happel, who also appears on violin, keyboards and some vocal harmonies. Other performers include Kent Allyn (bass, guitar and piano), Robbie Coffin (lead guitar), Wayne Brewer (pedal steel guitar) Jim Rioux and Sean Daniels (drums), Tim Sink (alto and tenor sax) and Carri Coltrane on vocal harmonies. The two covers—Do Nothin’ ‘Til You Hear From Me and Come Rain or Come Shine—are live acoustic recordings, as is the unlisted “bonus” track Midnight Angel. All tickets are $12 and are now on-sale here through Brown Paper Tickets and at any Bull Moose Music location!

Patty Larkin

06/08/12 – Acoustic Guitar hails her “soundscape experiments.” Rolling Stone praises her “evocative sonic shading.” She has been described as “riveting” (Chicago Tribune), “hypnotic” (Entertainment Weekly) and a “drop-dead brilliant” performer (Performing Songwriter). Don't miss Patty Larkin as she plays here in Portland one night only Friday June 8th at St. Lawrence Arts! Patty Larkin is part of the urban-folk/pop music phenomenon that spun off of the singer/songwriter explosion of the seventies, reinterpreting traditional folk melodies, rock, pop, bossa nova, drawing on anything from Dylan (Bob) to Dylan (Thomas). A self described “guitar driven songwriter,” Larkin has wound her way through soundscapes of evocative vocals, inventive guitar wizardry and imaginative lyrics. Her songs run from impressionistic poetry to witty wordplay.
